Summary

What’s CBG?

Cannabigerol, known as CBG, is a phytocannabinoid which, unlike THC and just like CBD is not psychotropic

CBG was first discovered in 1964 by scientist Y. Gaoni, and is composed of cannabigerolic acid (CBGA), one of the first cannabinoids to form in the cannabis plant.

It is often called the father of all cannabinoids and not by chance: like a caring father, CBG "bends" to the needs of nature giving life to the other components of Cannabis such as CBD and THC.

How does CBG affect our body?

CBG, like CBD, works by interacting with the cannabinoid receptors present in our body. The receptors are identified in two types, CB1 and CB2. The set of these receptors is called the endocannabinoid system, and is responsible for maintaining the balance of various vital functions of our organism.

Cannabigerol (CBG), therefore, does not act with a specific objective on a particular pathology but with a "regulatory" substance that supports our endocannabinoid system in regulating homeostasis, that is functional balance.

Basically, when an imbalance or decompensation occurs in the endocannabinoid system, the modulation provided by cannabigerol (CBG) - which acts, for example, on the immune system or indirectly on an inflammatory process - tends to restore the original balance .

Cannabigerol (CBG) can support the recovery due to an alteration of the human endocannabinoid system caused by pathologies or trauma, therefore also by external agents.

In particular, CBG has been shown to increase the production of anandamide, the main endogenous cannabinoid present in our body.Anandamide helps regulate sleep, appetite and memory by acting directly on the CB1 and CB2 receptors.

CBG effects: here are the main therapeutic potentials

Anxiety and stress

CBG inhibits the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), succeeding in decreasing the state of anxiety as well as reducing muscle tension that can be associated with various reasons / pathologies. This is an action similar to that carried out by Cannabidiol, discovered in 2009 by researchers from the Institute of Medical Sciences of the University of Aberdeen, in Great Britain, and published in January 2010 in the pages of the British Journal of Pharmacology.

Glaucoma

We have talked in the past about the therapeutic potential of CBD for this type of pathology. In the same way CBG contributes to reduce intraocular pressure by increasing the drainage of the eye. This property of CBG has been identified for some time by a pioneer of scientific research in this specific field, Brenda K. Colasanti of the University of West Virginia. The first study, in fact, to link the use of cannabigerol for the treatment of glaucoma dates back to 1984, but it is in 1990, with research published in the Journal of Ocular Pharmacology and Therapeutics that the potential of CBG is actually brought to light.

Intestinal inflammation and Chron's disease

CBG possesses strong anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties that are beneficial for inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease, conditions for which the contribution of CBD is also known (Click Here) but which, in the case of CBG, have attracted particular attention after a study published in 2013 by a team of the pharmacology department of the University of Naples "Federico II" in the authoritative journal Biochemical Pharmacology.

Depression

Science argues that CBG has antidepressant and analgesic properties with potentially painkilling effects as well. In 2010, research published in Pharmacology Biochemistry Behavior by a research group at the University of Mississippi wanted to shed light on the potential antidepressant effects of various cannabinoids - even the lesser known ones such as CBG - highlighting their promising application possibilities in this particular therapeutic area.

Nausea

Preclinical studies have highlighted how CBG can interact with the sensation of nausea. Researchers from the Psychology department of the University of Guelph, Canada, wanted to identify the effects of CBG on some animal models and, in particular, the interaction of this cannabinoid in association with CBD. The results were published in 2011 in the pages of the journal Psychopharmacology.

Tumors and cancer cells

Some studies have shown that CBG could inhibit the growth of cancer cells, however, there is still much to be done and studied to give the most precise answers on the issue. Evidence, in this sense, comes from a study published in Carcinogenesis in December 2014 by a large team of researchers from the University of Naples "Federico II". The study looked at carcinogenesis in the colon region and found some promising properties of cannabigerol. However, we are a long way from considering cannabigerol and cannabinoids in general as the "cure" for cancer. We talked about it in depth here.

Cannabis and Tumors: Read Enecta's interview with Dr. Massimo Nabissi.

Neuroprotection

CBG is a promising therapeutic agent in disorders associated with the central nervous system such as epilepsy, Huntington's disease. The first to highlight this property were researchers from the Departamento de Bioquímica y Biología Molecular of the Instituto Universitario de Investigación en Neuroquímica, in Madrid. In their study, published in 2015 in Neurotherapeutics, the researchers concluded that cannabigerol (and other cannabinoids as well) could play a fundamental role in delaying the advancement of neurodegenerative diseases, with particular reference to Huntington's chorea.

Antifungal and antimicrobial properties

Like the vast majority of major cannabinoids, CBG exhibits antifungal and antimicrobial properties, first described in 1982 in the pages of the Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

Psoriasis

CBG helps to combat this type of pathology, a topic that we have already addressed given the effectiveness that CBD also shows in this sense, read our testimony. CBG - and cannabinoids in general - also exert an anti-inflammatory function at the topical level. In the Journal of Dermatological Science, Nottingham University researchers had already described this potential as early as 2007.

Bladder dysfunction

CBG appears to be the most effective cannabinoid for treating bladder dysfunctions, as highlighted in 2015 on the pages of Natural Product Communications by an Italian research team.

How to take CBG oil

The most effective oral way of taking CBG is to apply the oil drops under the tongue.

In this way, cannabigerol is allowed to pass directly into the blood, through the capillaries present in the mouth and under the tongue, a highly vascularized area.

Cannabigerol is not "dispersed" during digestion and thus performs its functions in a minimum time, almost immediately.

Remember that it is best not to eat, drink or smoke for the five minutes before and after taking.

CBG oil dosage: how much?

As with CBF, the amount of CBG to be taken is very subjective. It depends on individual needs, whether we use cannabidiol in a therapeutic way or not.

The first step is to evaluate the concentration of CBG contained in the oil: our Oil Gc 500 contains 1.5 mg of CBG for each drop.

The second thing to consider is that the metabolism response differs from person to person, with a literature reporting the testimonies of users who have obtained the same results with different dosages, under the same physiological conditions (age, height, weight ).

"Listening" to ourselves is the right answer, starting from a few drops to get to the optimal quantity for your individual needs, and always after consulting your doctor.
