These days, people are vaping everything from Nicotine to the cannabinoids CBD and THC. But why vape? And why CBD vaping?
Vaping started out as healthier alternative to smoking, and the main focus was on cigarette smokers who wanted to quit or else find a healthier way to get their nicotine fix without smoking. But there’s another herb that many people have smoked over the centuries, and that’s cannabis. Users of high THC cannabis for recreational or medical purposes have also taken up vaping, but although they are inhaling a tar-free vapor, and THC is less addictive than nicotine, it is nevertheless a psychoactive substance that can become addictive even if only on a psychological basis.
CBD vaping for pleasure and health
Unlike nicotine or THC, CBD is not addictive. It does not contain anything that actually makes you feel high and doesn’t affect the way you function. But it is relaxing. For those who hope that CBD will impart health benefits, vaping also provides a more effective mode of delivery than oral ingestion does.
The problem with ingestions is that the product has to pass through the digestive system first and digestive processes alter the molecules. There has even been a study that suggests CBD may be converted into THC when exposed to stomach acids – a surprising effect that was highlighted by the drowsiness of children who were given CBD pharmaceuticals to combat seizure disorders. In addition, absorption of molecules such as CBD into the bloodstream is unpredictable.
Vaping overcomes these problems. CBD is absorbed directly into the bloodstream without having to pass through the digestive tract. It also has faster effects because of this direct absorption. It can take hours to feel the effects of orally ingested CBD, but CBD vaping allows the cannabinoid to start acting quickly, a benefit for those hoping to relieve pain or chemotherapy-induced nausea.
