How does CBD (Cannabidiol) interact with the skin?

The properties of CBD would be able to allow reinforcement of the natural defences of the skin.

A study carried out in Great Britain by the Universities of Nottingham and Reading, published in the ‘Journal of Dermatological Science’ demonstrates how cannabinoids, and CBD, are able to block the proliferation of keratinocytes, which are nothing other than cells predominantly present in the epidermis.

Many consumers have written, asking us if in cases of psoriasis CBD could represent a solution.

Psoriasis is a chronical inflammation of the skin, not contagious and not infectious.

Usually psoriasis manifests itself as areas with rash, characterized by red patches with silvery scales, caused by an abnormal thickening of the corneous layer of the skin. The areas of the body which in general are mostly affected are elbows, knees, hands, tailbone, scalp and feet.

A study conducted in 2010 and published in the US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health tried to demonstrate the effectiveness of cannabidiol in the cure of psoriasis.

The researchers showed how the substances able to act on the CB2 receptor of our endocannabinoid system, can support some inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. 

CBD binding with the CB2 receptor exercises its biochemical action on the ‘network’ on which all the information related to our immune system is transmitted.

CBD could represent an ideal substance, due to its anti-inflammatory and anti-proliferative properties, which allow to act in an effective manner against the symptoms of psoriasis.

Which are the causes of psoriasis?

The causes can be of various nature, for example genetics, or linked to other, emotional factors, like  excessive forms of stress, in certain cases caused by the use of medical drugs.

A lifestyle characterized by smoking, alcohol, obesity, stress and an improper diet certainly favours psoriasis. Individuals with a high rate of Body Mass have a higher risk of developing it.

Why did you use CBD during convalescence?

The plaster cast caused an allergic rash and I looked for something that could give relief from the consequent itching. A friend recommended to use CBD and I tried Premium Hemp Extract 10%. I started using the oil after having taken off the plaster cast!

Which were the results?  

The bubbles disappeared and the itchiness diminished considerably.

With which dosage and in how much time did you obtain this result?

I applied 5 drops of oil every evening, protecting the arm with food-grade cellophane. In my case, after three days the bubbles had disappeared and I had found relief from the itching.
