Nine plants that contain Therapeutic Cannabinoids

Cannabinoids are the chemical compounds secreted by cannabis flowers that provide relief to a range of symptoms such as multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, and anxiety.
 
Marijuana is often cited as the most well known plant that cures these ailments, but they can also be found in many other (non-psychoactive) plants:

Chocolate

Chocolate contains compounds that work with another enzyme called FAAH (Fatty acid amide hydrolase), which breaks down an endocannabinoid called anandamide in our bodies – ultimately making us feel happier.
 

Black Pepper

The pepper plant contains an aroma molecule called beta-caryophyllene (BCP) which works as a Cannabinoid and also has anti-inflammatory properties, making it worthy of treating ailments such as arthiritis and osteoperosis.

Black Truffles
 
One of the most expensive edible mushrooms in the world, black truffles have been shown to produce the same happy molecule (anandamide) as chocolate and cannabis. A study conducted by Mauro Maccarrone and his colleagues in Rome found that the truffles produce anandamide using the same biological mechanism as THC.

Coneflower

Most commonly known as the plant that battles against the everyday cold, coneflower also provides relief to fatigue, anxiety, arthiritis and migraines. It is slightly different to cannabis in that it uses cannabimimetics rather than cannabinoids to interact with the endocannabinoid system.
 
Anandamide comes as part of the brain-body network known as the endocannabinoid system, which plays very important roles in mental states as well as an assortment of bodily functions.

Electric Daisy
 
Known by some as the toothache plant, Electric Daisy can also be formed into a powerful painkilling gel. Studies conducted at Cambridge University have shown that  Electric Daisy blocks pain receptors at nerve endings.

Helichrysum Umbraculigerum

Despite the difficult sounding name, this plant is actually a daisy and contains a significant amount of cannabigerol, giving it antidepressant and anti-inflammatory properties. Cannabigerol is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid,  typically found during the early stages of the marijuana growing cycle.
 

Chinese Rhododendron

The essential oils extracted from Chinese Rhododendron can kill anything from cancer cells to staphylococcal infection – a group of infections caused by the bacterium Staphylococcus.

Japanese Livewort

This plant is most well-known for its ability to treat bladder, liver and gallbladder problems that contain high amounts of a cannabinoid known as perrotentinenic acid – also very similar to THC. Similarly to cannabis, it is known for treating chronic resparitory problems and bronchitis.

Kava
 
Kava has become more popular in the West as a remedy for anxiety as well as chronic pain, also  being used to have a sedative effect on users. Similarly to the other plants mentioned above, Kava produces similar effects to cannabis, which is attributable to a compound in kava which connects with THC.
